H2 generation and wastewater treatment at the Berlin Waßmannsdorf treatment plant
Graforce has built the world’s first plant for the generation of hydrogen from wastewater (3,000 l/h) on the premises of Berliner Wasserbetriebe at the Waßmannsdorf treatment plant.
There, up to 50 kg of hydrogen can be produced per day from wastewater containing NH4.
The Plasmalyzer® consumes 20 kWh of energy per kg of hydrogen.
The plant enables the treatment of industrial and municipal wastewater with high NH4 loads.
The container-based plant enables NH4 elimination with simultaneous NH3 concentration via jet loop technology. Subsequently, the NH3 concentrate is split into hydrogen and nitrogen by way of wastewater plasmalysis and the hydrogen is stored for further use, as fuel, for example.
